Have you ever chosen rotary dampers with zinc die-cast body because you were concerned about those with plastic body, but when you tried to install them, you found that they have a limited opening angle and decided not to use them?
Conventional TOK’s rotary dampers with die-cast body have a maximum opening angle of 120° and you cannot use them on lids that opened wider than that. But now that we have released TD159, you can apply lids with an opening angle up to 280°.
In this article, we introduce the background to the release of TD159 and the advantages of TD159.

Background to the release of TD159
We developed TD159 in response to the need to expand the allowable opening angle of rotary dampers with zinc die-cast body. The main applications of conventional partial rotation angle type rotary dampers were pianos and toilet lids with an operating angle of 110°, so conventional rotary dampers with opening angle of 120° met the requirements. However, new needs for a 240° operating angle led us to develop TD159 as a minor change from the conventional product. Basically we often mount rotary dampers on lids that close horizontally from above and use the lid’s own weight to close gently. On the other hand, doors with a wide opening angle, such as swing doors, use spring force instead of the lid’s own weight, so we thought TD159 would be the best choice to buffer the spring momentum with a rotary damper.
Advantages of TD159
TD159 has the following features.
・Partial rotation angle type with an opening angle of 280°
・High rigidity specification using zinc die-casting
・Torque 0.7 N・m (75% higher than our conventional product)
・Improved response of damping force (compared to our conventional product)
・Wide range of options
・Partial rotation angle type with an opening angle of 280°
Based on the design developed for the conventional rotary damper with die-cast body, the internal design has been improved to increase the opening angle from the conventional 110° to 280°.
For more detailed information on the expanded angle of use, please click here for the same information as for TD154.
・High rigidity specification using zinc die-casting
Compared to plastic, zinc die-casting has higher rigidity, which prevents deformation due to external impact or force, and helps improve the service life of the product itself.
・Torque 0.7 N・m (75% higher than our conventional product)
The maximum torque is 75% higher than that of our conventional product TD154. However, it is structurally difficult to further increase the torque of TD159, so please contact us if you require a higher torque.
・Improved response of damping force (compared to our conventional product)
Improved responsiveness of damping force
Responsiveness is compared by the difference in the angle from when the lid is released to when the damper effect is activated.
If the lid is released at a low position when it is opened, a rotary damper with low responsiveness will not work and immediately slam shut, while a rotary damper with good responsiveness will work even if the lid is opened at a low position.
Although TOK does not have quantitative specifications for responsiveness, it has been improved compared to ours by changing the internal flow path design.
・Wide range of options
In addition to the standard product, you can choose from a variety of options, including attachments and chromate treatment (anti-corrosion treatment).
The range of options has been expanded, such as choosing TD159 with an attachment to suit the installation location, or a chromate-treated type for use at wet area, such as in toilets.
